Sold Out! Shirts for Socially Awkward People the Strong Athletic Super Awkward Shirt

$35.00
$29.00
This is the Strong Athletic Super Awkward shirt that Strong Athletic made after requests came in from our community. This seems to be the perfect shirt for people who identify as being super socially awkward. A portion of profits from each shirt sold is donated to the National MS Society. This shirt is made by Strong Athletic the feminist woman owned LGBT company that supports all athletes in sports. This shirt doesn't seem like it's a roller derby shirt, but truly it's birth was within the flat track derby community when Kim of Gallatin Roller Derby posted a photo of her custom shirt on Derby Twitter and everyone went crazy for it. Have you been looking for a shirt that's made especially for awkward people? Well, you've found it.

T-Shirts About being Super Awkward, the Strong Athletic Super Awkward Design

The Strong Athletic Super Awkward shirt design came in as a request by Kim of Gallatin RD. So many people lovedddddd it that we decided (with her blessing) to make if for the masses. This shirt is a special custom order and we'll only be printing a small batch, so if you want one, grab one now. When asked for the inspiration behind this design Kim said she feels socially awkward when she's in social settings. It's fine when she's talking to other derby players online, but as soon as she's around folx at bouts, clinics, RollerCon, BOTAS Derby Tournament, or other tournament she just feels so awkward. Perhaps you can relate?!?

At Strong Athletic we have members of our community who tell us that they always felt like the nerd on their sports team, or they felt like the dork at school or they felt like the geek among the jocks. We think of nerds, dorks, geeks and socially awkward people as being so similar yet so different. There's so many of us who wear those words like a badge, and they are qualities that we feel proud about, yet others were shamed by them and in fact others called them those words and they wanted to separate theirselves from them. Sports teams can be hard on people that seem different or who feel like they don't "fit in." Because sports teams rely so heavily on athletes doing what their peers are doing, a mob mentality can  really form on teams, creating a toxic environment that is not inclusive to everyone. We know that some people see this design and laugh, or they identify, but it's not something that limited them. We know that for others this statement really hits home and they are still trying to figure out how they fit in with other humans.  Where ever you fall in these categories, we want you to know that Strong Athletic supports you and we welcome you to join our community of humans. We know that the more unique people are, the better.

When you order this tank you have the option to choose from three different styles. Size charts are listed below. This is a small-batch product and pre-orders End on March 16, 2020. Once they close you will not be able to order one of these shirts. $1 from each of these shirts will be donated to National MS Society in the name of Team Bambles.

About the Strong Athletic Super Awkward Design by Strong Athletic

We know that there are a few companies that make funny shirts about being "awkward." One thing we notice is that our shirts are usually about $5-$10 more expensive than the other shirts on the market. Ever wonder why there is such a price difference? There's a good chance that some of those companies are simply producing more shirts, faster, and so their overhead costs are lower. We can't speak for them and how they set their prices, but we can speak for ourselves. At Strong Athletic, we only use small-scale screen printers and the garments that we print on are always made in W.A.R.P. Certified facilities. We also pay all of our contract employees a pay rate that is in line with living wage standards. We also have many of our shirts associated with a non-profit and we donate a portion of profits (sometimes 100% of profits) to causes that hold dear. In the case of this shirt, a portion of profits are donated. We believe that when products are cheap, someone is losing out on income. We don't want those people to be anyone involved in our supply chain or who work for Strong Athletic on a daily basis.

Every single Strong Athletic shirt is printed by a small-scale, local screen printer. The majority of our shirts are printed by Amanda in Austin, Texas who prints out of the Austin Screen Printer's Coop, a screen printing shop that is member owned and run in East Austin. When our shirts are not printed by Amanda they are printed by other small-scale screen printers such as Second Avenues Ink in Portland, Oregon or Leigh Valley Apparel Creations in Pennsylvania. As mentioned above, the art for this design was created by Cristen Perks in 2013 for Strong Athletic founder Nadia Kean. The Strong Athletic logo was created by Angel Ortega in 2015, until that point our shirts had the Get Smarty Coaching logo on them.

Every Strong Athletic Shirt comes wrapped in our signature "You are so Strong" wraps which are held together with a kraft Strong Athletic sticker. Each shirt is then packaged in a biodegradable kraft mailer that we get from a US based company called EcoEnclose. We include a postcard that shares the origin story of Strong Athletic and that is addressed by hand to the person receiving the shirt. Also included in every package is a Strong Athletic logo sticker and one of our "We Believe" stickers. Every time you open a package from Strong Athletic we want it to feel special, especially if you're sending the Strong Athletic shirt as a gift.

People either buy Strong Athletic for theirselves or for their friends. Because our shirts, hats and fanny packs are so often sent to people as gifts, we decided that we wanted to make the experience of opening a Strong Athletic package feel like you're opening a gift. When your package from Strong Athletic arrives, you'll immediately notice that the kraft mailer is biodegradable and that it's covered in our removable signature "We Believe" sticker. Opening the package you will find your shirt, wrapped in a "You are so Strong" wrapper. In addition to whatever you purchased you'll also find a few of our signature logo stickers and a smaller "We Believe" sticker, plus a postcard with the origin story of our company hand written to the recipient of the package. If you're sending this as a gift to a friend, you can have us include a hand-written message and we'll sign your name for you. Just write out what you want written on the notes in the comment section of the cart.
