Shirts for LGBTQIA2S+ Athletes: Our Strong Athletic Queer Black Tees and Tanks with White Writing
Strong Athletic is a queer owned company and we are proud to be part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Through the products we make, our goal is to support athletes who are on the fringe of sports and that includes athletes in our community. What do we mean by being on the "fringe of sports"? Strong Athletic has a history of supporting athletes who play sports that are more obscure and we also support people that mainstream sports do not typically include when it speaks about athletes.
The Strong Athletic Queer designs is one that we created to support our community. The words Strong Athletic Queer make a bold statement within an ascetically simple t-shirt design. We added the Strong Athletic Queer design to our lineup early on, in 2014, the first year we started to sell our shirts to the public. Initially we established Strong Athletic with our keystone Strong Athletic Woman shirt, however it quickly became obvious that while that shirt was empowering to people who identified as women, it was excluding many people who did not identify that way. It was for this reason that we added the Strong Athletic Queer shirts to our lineup and we've never looked back.
As part of our mission to support LGBT+ athletes in sports, we've pre-donated a portion of the profits from each of our Strong Athletic Queer shirts that we sale to Pull for Pride. What is a pre-donation? A pre-donation is when we make the donation in advance before we sell the shirt. This allows us to make an accurate and timely donation to the non-profit based on the number of the shirts that are created, rather than the number of shirts that are sold. About the T-shirt and Tank Top Styles that we Print the Strong Athletic Queer Design On
The Strong Athletic Queer design comes in many shirt styles and color combinations. These four Strong Athletic Queer shirts are the ones that we specifically make on a black fabric base and with white ink screen printed by hand across each shirt. The four styles of shirts that we carry are a traditional t-shirt, a traditional tank top, a flowy muscle tank top and a crop top.
The black Bella Canvas Crew Neck T-shirt is basically your average tee. This shirt is designed to hang "straight down" meaning it doesn't billow and it is not "flowy". The length of the sleeves is very average- it is not capped sleeved and they do end above the elbow, about mid-upper arm. The length of this t-shirt is also average, with the hem coming down to the mid-upper thigh. This shirt is pre-shrunk.
The black Bella Canvas Fitted Tank is basically your average tank top. This shirt is designed to hang "straight down" meaning it doesn't billow and it is not "flowy". The tank covers the majority of your chest, side body and back. The length of this t-shirt is also average, with the hem coming down to the mid-upper thigh. This shirt is pre-shrunk.
The black Bella Canvas Racerback Crop Top is one of the most popular "cuts" or styles of shirts we've ever carried. Although not everyone is a fan of crop tops, what we know is... "Once you Crop, You Can't Stop!" This black crop top is a bit "flowy" in design and it actually gets longer as the sizes change. For sizes Small, Medium and Large the length is more like a traditional crop. For sizes X-Large and 2X-Large the length is longer- more like a regular tank top. This shirt is pre-shrunk.
The black Bella Canvas Flowy Muscle Tank is the most popular style of tank top that we have carried. This tank is not designed to be clingy, but rather flowy. The tank billows a bit as you go down the fabric toward the lower hem. The arm holes of this shirt are larger than a traditional tank top- which is why this tank is called a "muscle tank". The length of the tank is average, with the hem coming down to upper thigh. This shirt is pre-shrunk.
As mentioned above, the Strong Athletic Queer design is based on the original Strong Athletic t-shirt created in 2013 by Cristen Perks for Strong Athletic founder Nadia Kean. The words "Strong Athletic Queer" are screen printed by hand in bright white ink on the front of the shirt and the Strong Athletic logo is printed on both the front and the back of the shirt. The Strong Athletic logo was designed for Strong Athletic by Angel Ortega owner and key designer at Garzig Design, based in Austin, Texas. There is a good chance that your shirt was screen printed by Amanda who works out of the Austin Screen Printing Coop, however if your shirt was not screen printed there, then it was screen printed at a small scale, locally-owned shop in the United States.
